Cable management: Yes it is important!!!

With so many cables to hide, most of us put up with clutter in our own cases, close the side panel and never bother about it till the next upgrade. In the world of the modder, though, its almost more important than everything else you did.

So it took a lot of planning on my behalf to hide about 80% of the cables within the case. Not all cables can be hidden, but I got pretty close. I think it's a really good job being as cable routing wasn't even part of my initial design - I hadn't even thought about it.

So, now faced with this new-found problem, I came up with a plan of installing the cables in the hidden section under the case. After all, it was completely wasted space...so I filled it with all the cables I could get in there. It's certainly not a waste any more!


In each photo, you can see the progression of my attempt at cable management. In order to keep everything neat and tidy, I fashioned clamps out of leftover Modders' Mesh from AC Ryan, then used double-sided clear tape to fasten it to the base plate. I also added dual red cathodes that sit hidden in small alcoves on each side of the case, in between the motherboard base and the floor.


I included a budget fan controller module, which I left accessible from the bottom of the case. This way, I can switch between the five and twelve volt settings when the season changes from summer to winter.

Fan Turbine Mod: If Bill (MNPCTech) can make them, why can't I??

I've always liked the Fan Turbines that Bill from MNPCTech has used in some of his cases and because I'm not in a position where I can freely buy them, I decided to make some of my own instead. Admittedly, they are not the best, but I gave it a go and it worked.


I found a kids' candy with a lid that would be perfect as a turbine, but I needed it to fit the 80mm fans. So, I ground down some of the base of the cap, and gave it a test fit before applying the glue. Once I was happy with the result, I glued it and gave it a test run. The last photo says it all to me - a cheap, simple and incredibly effective fan mod.

Cosmetics: Side panels and top panel

I really wanted to bring out the top and side panels, more so than what they already were. I really wanted to highlight the FutureNe[]n logo and top panel.


So, to do this, I used more Modders' Mesh (painted satin-black this time) bent into sections. I put these pieces between the sides of the cross members of the frame, which gave the added bonus of some reinforcement.


I hadn’t ever made any type of plan for the top panel, so I just worked with it as I went along. After a few attempts at a design, I found what is now the final version, I also added more mesh, painted satin black again, which brings out the polish and the red acrylic. All of this mesh also helps to increase the overall airflow within the case.
